Career Highlights

Debbie was the first North American woman to clear 6 feet. She used a unique jumping style which was dubbed the "Brill Bend." Debbie was a member of four Canadian Olympic teams, with a best finish of 5th place at the 1984 Olympics.

Debbie swept the first three women's high jump competitions held at the Relays. By 1977, she had added over nine inches to the meet record, a mark which stood for 10 years. In sum, Debbie won seven Relays' titles, the most ever won by a competitor in the high jump.

In addition to two Commonwealth Games championships, Debbie also claimed the 1971 Pan-Am and 1979 World Cup titles.

Debbie remains active in Masters' competition, and holds a number of World and Canadian national age group records.
